Jury Duty

Jury Duty

I had Jury Duty this week down at the Superior Court. In my county it is supposed to be one day. But, they wasted the first day just getting us organized. Two groups were called up to courtrooms after lunch and my group was told after a brief introduction that we'd have to come back yesterday at 9:33. for selection.
It was a criminal Domestic Violence case.
Now I am one that does not have the patience for bullshit and stupidity. Even my own. I was in the first 18 people to be put in the box. The judge went down the line asking all the questions; names whether we'd been on juries before, whether we'd been charged with crimes and the outcomes, if we had legal people as friends, did we have any domestic abuse in our past or present.
After the first 18 of us did our disclosures she called a break and called the people that she red flagged to come back in one at a time to explain their problems. I got called back in for my Disturbing the peace misdemeanor back in my past. I was excused.. The judge had a feeling I had a problem with authority. I do.

Wife beaters should be beaten till they can't walk anymore. NEVER hit a woman. My Dad taught me that at a very young age. I am sure the guy was very guilty for the domestic abuse charge.

But.. they had other charges That I just could not cotton to. Kidnapping, wielding a deadly weapon (2 counts), Threatening a police officer. Oh.. the responding officers were California Highway patrolmen. I have never met one that wasn't an overbearing pompous ass. I like the old Chicago cops.. They liked to argue with you as you got your ticket. I just felt like everything got blown out of proportion. I feel like he was being railroaded by the county attorney because domestic abuse is such a hot topic.
I am sure the guy will be convicted. I more than likely would of domestic abuse. But of the other charges.. probably not.
Oh, I didn't mention he was hispanic and needed an interpreter in court to understand what is going on.

If I was the judge, I'd have put in a little Sharia Law and have the woman's family beat the shit out of him.
