Shallow is the man who judges the outside. However, we do naturally draw inferences from unkept people. Or at least I do. It is sort of like today when I saw a woman eating a candy bar and drinking a big cup of something from some fast food place. Then again, I see people at the gym immaculately dressed in the latest gym wear and yet you look inside their car and its a garbage can. Yes, people, especially young mom's, get busy. Personally I don't care what you're wearing as long as you wear a smile simply because you are enjoying my company. my .02

I would draw a distinction between judgment and discerning. Judgment seems to have a finality to it and somewhat undeserving. Yes? No? I discern situations and people. Age and experience sort of brings out a cautionary stance. Youth are usually the fools who rush in.

Well, lets flip it around. Would I still be attracted to Idris Elba even if he had a five o'clock shadow and holes in his pants? Yes. Definitely yes. When I see extravagance in clothing and things like manicures, I more often think of misplaced priorities. My evil ex-girlfriend spent so much on clothing, dry cleaning, nails, and hair that she was often late paying her rent. Her excuse was that she was a model and, "What if the paparazzi caught a picture of me when my hair wasn't perfect?" But she didn't get any modeling work the entire almost-year we were together, and she even turned down a job to do stock photos. By contrast, my wife is just fine in sweats, jammies around the house, and clothes she has owned since before we met. Her face is beautiful without any makeup, her hair looks nice any way she does it, and the only reason she gets a manicure is to repair brittle nails. But if she wants to get the nails done up fancy while she's at it, it's an affordable luxury that makes her feel good. Likewise fancy clothes, which she buys only to replace stuff that's past its useful lifespan; she tends to buy more expensive stuff, but for durability rather than frivolous fashion. When we are out and about, we both enjoy the way women look in yoga pants. But that's partly because women who wear yoga pants are often women who look good in anything, and yoga pants shows that off. I suppose the difference is a matter of what sort of look is nice just to look at, and which look says, "I'm a sensible person who is good to live with."
