When I was a much younger man and at sea on a destroyer I had gotten used to the constant hum of the machinery of a (semi)modern warship. One night I woken up to QUIET. While I was off watch there had been a casualty the running generator, and we had gone dark in the middle of the pacific. Some scary stuff until I realized it was not huge thing. Not the Whole Truth but the truth that I can see.

Lots of powerful stuff, hope the power returns to your house. When I lived in the country, icestorm 98? No power for 10 days, we had woodstove, outdoor cooking pit, we were fine. Now in the city, do have flashlight and candles would be very miserable if we lost power for extended time.

My house is 100% electric so if the power goes out I'm totally screwed. Fortunately the lines are all underground, so even our Kansas ice storm rarely cause it to go out for long. Such a powerful and joyful post As for the powerless anecdote : I always saw my father as a serious and calm man, this was until one day the elevator power went off, and we got "lockdown". Suddenly he started to sweat and scream, shout for help and knock the door, out of control, and two kids trying to calm down his once calmed father, LOL. It is the combination of powers i.e. power of your legs, power between the legs, and the power of mind that helps you succeed. I am one example of that. I have had many challenges in my life that I could navigate through successfully because of the combination of powers. Don't pay victim, use your own power!!!

In the late 90's, our house had an electric stove and oven. We were cooking our Thanksgiving feast when we hear a loud bang, like a gun blast and our electricity went off. Our town had a bad squirrel problem and would come in contact with the terminals on the power transformers. It would create a short, blow the transformer and fry the squirrel. Called the utility company and within an hour we had the power restored and continued cooking. The feast was wonderful although a little late. The utility company had protector cages to go over the terminals but would only install them when a transformer blew. It was cost prohibitive to install them on all of the transformers at one time.

Sorry about that. I was out in the backyard playing with a magnifying glass and some mirrors. I’m pretty sure I bounced something off of a passing Chinese satellite and it took out power in parts of Canada and the UK. I should have waited for you, Brain. Signed, Pinky

I remember being in the shower when a 6.8 earthquake hit, but I don’t really have any good stories when my power went out. Funny women are incredibly sexy!

All the kitchen that is possible is gas powered. The refrig and freezer are on a back up generator. I will forge ahead

I would not say he was (is) a true claustrophobic, and besides that day I've never seen him afraid in a close room. It seems his "only" fear was to spend the weekend in the elevator, which is not that much joy LOL . A very powerful post.....been through a few power outages, one lasted 4 days due to a storm. Luckily I grabbed the last portable generator at Home Depot a few days prior to the storm and was able to keep the refrigerator and box freezer running (no food spoilage) as well as a few other needed appliances. It was loud, but there were so many running in the neighborhood lol.
