In the firey depths of hell....

There sits my office.

What could be more awkward?

Boss #1's wife (estranged?) showing up in my office door?

Said wife asking me to fax Boss #1's benefit information to benefits?

Having 3 coworkers immediately ask me what she wanted the moment she left my office?

Having Boss #2 call me on her day off, moments later, to find out why said wife was in my office??

Good lord people.... I've felt less anxiety waiting for a pregnancy test result to come back after an unexpected missed period.

He bona fide sent her to me to fax his retirement info... He wrote a note on it. Too many nosey people.
I wouldn't accept a note alone for such an issue. I hope you heard from him directly.

Funny thing when I divorced my wife after finding out about some things she had been doing etc. I found a piece of paper where she had been practicing writing my signature...

Vive La Difference

As long as the drama doesn't involve me, it can be pretty entertaining. LOL

Oh dear.....stuck in the middle with.....well, no one, you're on yer own there McLade!!

If it happened here (something similar happened to me several years ago) we would advise that requests for confidential information need to be dealt with through formal channels - lawyers, court orders etc. Not sure what to say to the boss all the same, he'd likely feel entitled to know what it was all about!

Funnily enough, I have an idea that you may have sorted this out in the most appropriate way, ye're a canny one McLade!
Yes, thankfully, I was able to sort it out and take care of it without getting everyone all pissy. The note to me, in Boss #1's hand, asking me to fax it to a secific number helped.

Response: Boss #1 wife: I'm sorry, I'm not allowed to fill your request.
Response: Peers: I'm sorry, I'm not allowed to disclose that information. Why are you asking?
Response: Boss #2: Let me call you back?

In some states, even the wife has no authority to request the disclosure and transmission of health related information - especially from within a company unless she works there and has management authority over the personal information. And presuming you're in a position of access to such information, 'peers' have no right to your privilege knowledge. Finally, office business comes first - call someone else for your office gossip .
All very good answers.... In this case, I did not have to look anything up or disclose anything. I looked through the paperwork needing to be faxed, no personal info was involved, just a formality containing his personal note requesting me to fax.

There was a lot of drama involved right from the start created by Boss #1. Bad situation all the way around.

It's only fun when it doesn't involve me. I'm a little pissed at the co-worker who immediately texted boss #2. Fucking tattle tale.
