Throw Me a Party๐ŸŽ‰... When I'm Dead and Gone ๐Ÿ˜„... I'll Bring The Music ๐ŸŽถ ๐Ÿค—

Note : A F F is deleting words in the text. Please be patient.

Last Sunday, I spent the afternoon at the cemetery. It was a hot and balmy, June day. Fat, grey squirrels, scurried amongst the gravestones. A clear blue sky and a lush green vista... framed my view. The scent of apple blossoms and lilac, filled the air. I stood there... amongst the dead. It was quiet and peaceful. But I was there, for a purpose.

There is, a Christian Orthodox tradition, 'Trinity Sunday' (celebrated eight weeks after Easter, on the 'Julian Calender' ), where ALL the departed, are honored with a gravesite ceremony. It's presided by family and friends and a priest. The prayer and incense infused, 'Thurible' blessing is brief - but it brings people together.

When my grandmother was alive, we'd all go back to her home and have a simple meal. The adults would recall stories and share memories and drink shots of vodka. They'd spend time laughing and reminiscing. As a ... I'd just look forward, to eating Grandma's roasted chicken and garlic mashed potatoes. Since my grandmother passed away, WE all just go, our separate ways... home. Kinda sad, when I think about it. But what I saw, as I drove through the cemetery... struck me. Some people - still get it RIGHT !

I was heading towards the Main Gates, when I passed a cluster of people, spread out by a gravestone. Blankets on the ground, marked a crawl way, for the tiny toddlers, too small to walk. The women sitting there, doled out bread and meats and cheeses and... filled up plastic glasses, with wine. Younger played round the monuments, chasing each other, giggling. The men stood by, telling stories, while they laughed and toasted in the air, with arms raised.

Ya know... I think that's the way, I'd like to be remembered. When I'm dead and gone, throw me a fucking PARTY... by my gravesite. Bring on the food and wine and vodka. Oh and... put the music up, FULL blast. It'll be tough, for me to hear the tunes!

Damn... I thought of something; "They better not play any fricken disco ." I'll start working, on that music mix. I wonder, what my first song would be?

.........................................
So...
Ya think you'd want, or deserve, a party in your honor, when you're gone?
What would be, your first tune? ๐Ÿค”

Heck yeah. Everyone deserves a party, no? I'd rather have people laughing and having a great time at my grave, than standing there crying.
So... I'm going to ramp up my good deeds to everyone and try and be REAL nice to my brother, for as long as I can. Until he pisses me off again...
I mean... who wants to be remembered as a quiet, lonely grouch, right? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜Š
They better bring a good sound system! ๐Ÿ”Š๐Ÿ˜‚
That first song? Hmmm... Something with a good beat to it ; ZZ Top..." Le Grange" ... maybe...

Yeah... That whole gravesite thing sounds morbid, a bit. But many cultures celebrate death , rather than grieve in anguish. I'd like to hope, that I'll have left a positive mark on this place. When I'm gone, I hope the party continues. What about you?
Oh and... I'm not planning on going anywhere, for a while... ๐Ÿ˜Š So I think I've got some time, to get better, at getting better. Ya know what I mean? ๐Ÿค”

What a wonderful celebration of a loved one and a life well lived I bet.. what a great idea.. I would love it as well, especially with some AC/DC playing in the background, or better yet Trooper's Raise A Little Hell to go along with Hell's Bells.......LMAO!!!!!! I was also at the cemetary last Sunday to visit both my parents graves and tidy them up a bit with some more fresh flowers.. I go quite often during the year but with Father's Day last weekend, I went to say Hi to my Dad....What a wonderful post my coffee mate...xx

I did this kind of thing for my late husbands memorial service. We did a cookout on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, appropriate in more ways than one since we always had a big cookout on that weekend every year. The usual group that came for the cookouts were there, about 75 to 80 people total. His eulogy was more along the lines of stories told about him, some I had never heard before, some brought tears to my eyes, some made me laugh. HE was cremated, his ashes spread across the property, so I'm always at his graveside when I am home. And the music? Three songs in particular I wanted played. Warren Zevon - "Keep me in your heart", (my choice) Jimmy Buffet's "One Particular Harbor" (his request), and lastly, Willie Nelsons "To all the girls I've loved before", which made everyone laugh, yet suited him so well. We had discussed this the year before he died, it was amazing how easily it all came together.

When I volunteered for Hospice, we had an exercise to play our own funeral. It was rough to do, but along these lines, that's what I'd like too. I want to be cremated and have everyone gather and enjoy the day remembering.

I don't want a funeral, I want people to remember me while I was alive! I don't want to be laid out in a casket for people to see me dead. I remember VIVIDLY seeing my mother in her coffin, she didn't even look like my mom. It was the last time I saw her and it's a HORRIBLE memory. I don't want my kids going through that. My daughter's know I'm to be cremated and put on the fireplace mantel. They have already decided to share me. Six months at one daughters place and switch!๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

Cremate me and spread my ashes. I want no funeral, wake or memorial. I dont want anyone to go to any expense. I hate the death is a business that people get rich off of. If I were to have song at the free pot luck memorial it would Leonard Cohen - Closing time and Neil Young - Harvest Moon... cliche

What a coincidence that we'd both be in a cemetery at the same time... 300 miles apart. ๐Ÿ˜Š
Pippo great song selection. Can you imagine THOSE songs blasting across the headstones? Wow! I'll bet you, some of the residents would tap their feet and boogie along with you? ๐Ÿค—
I should have asked, if you had a special meal you'd like served in your honour. For me? Ribs and bbq chicken with potato salad. Can I serve two? ๐Ÿค” lol ๐Ÿ˜‚

This is my epitaph that I wrote,

In a Big Truck, Going somewhere:

In mountain snow or desert heat,
A big ol' Kenworth or Long nose Pete.
In city smog or high clean air
Put me in a Big Truck, going somewhere.

Groceries for the store or parts for ur car,
Medicine for Mom, or even a candy bar.
Without us rolling the shelves would be bare,
But we're in a Big Truck, get'n it here.

When I'm at my last marker and I've met my fate,
My loads all delivered, I'm at that last gate.
I hope God will know I've earned my place there,
In a Big Truck, go'n somewhere!

I want to be cremated, my ashes tossed off an overpass on a "Big Road"
with "Highway to Hell" by AC/DC blasting!

You want more details, here we go๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ. I definitely want 3 songs at my wake
1. The Devil Went Down To Georgia, Charlie Daniels Band. It has nothing to do with the lyrics or the meaning of the song. I used to hate and I mean HATE any music remotely country. This was the first "country" that I loved!! It always but a huge smile on my face, my friends and family understand ๐Ÿ˜Š
2. It's A Wonderful Would Louis Armstrong, his voice, that song touches me deeply and more often then not, I find it so beautiful that it will bring tears to my eyes
3. Fat Bottom Girls Queen I have always had a fat ass๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ and that song ALWAYS gets me dancing!!๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š
As far as the food at my wake, it will be whatever my 2 daughters decide, it depends who wins that battle๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ I won't be there to referee ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

Going through the pains of setting up something similar for mom here soon. She was cremated and we are spreading her ashes next weekend......

We are doing a celebration of life with music and food and good times I hope......

As for me I am not sure anyone would even come. However I agree that I would like a party and it not be somber........

First song would be "Who wants to live Forever" by Queen.

Oh, I have a few small requests... and these are to remind people that I had an off-beat, somewhat macabre sense of humor, and hopefully to set off a few giggles, eye rolls, and head shakes.

At my viewing/memorial, I wish to have the song "Pop Goes the Weasel" play, right before the start of anything that anyone wants to say.

I also wish to have someone dressed up as the Grim Reaper, complete with scythe (fake of course but real-looking), who will randomly point to someone in the audience every now and then.

In addition, I wish to have on the inside of the memorial pamphlets, two lyrical quotes from two of my favorite bands:

"A tous le monde, a tous mes amis, Je vous aime, Je dois partir", from A Tout le Monde by Megadeth.

"My body lies, yet still I roam", from Wherever I May Roam by Metallica.

Various other selected music that touches on such a somber time will be playing also. Though I haven't really compiled a permanent list of that yet.

What to do with my body? Well, for those who truly wish to "keep me around", there are these pendants you can buy that will hold a very small amount of a loved one's ashes, and they hang from a necklace.

There are also these places that will take your cremated remains, and place you into a biodegradable potted container with a tree seed in it, to be planted in the ground. This creation is based off of the saying We were born of the Earth, and to the Earth we shall return, and I think both of those items/things are very interesting and thoughtful to do for a departed loved one.

Or my next of kin can just BBQ my happy arse, stick a small amount of me in a batch of brownies, and EAT ME!

I'm sure it'll be a worthy and memorable celebration of her life... ๐Ÿ˜Š
Of course people will show up... advertise free coffee and donuts ๐Ÿฉโ˜•...
Yep... people will show up. You'd be surprised. Of course... you might never know.Hmmm... or perhaps... Twilight Zone material, right? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
Love that song choice. Wow! Hmmm. Yep. That will bring the house down, right? ๐Ÿ‘
Thanks for sharing.
I'm sure your Mother's event will go well. I'd love to hear about it afterwards. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Wow... That's wild! Both those songs are killer... and the lyrics are really deep.
So.. about that Grim Reaper idea.. ya think your friends have a sense of humour? lol omg... ๐Ÿ˜Š โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
Interesting concept with the tree planting...
But I'm really not sure about BBQ you! lol ๐Ÿ˜‚... Now live you? I might want to taste that... hmmm
Did I just say that out loud? ๐Ÿค” OMG... lol
Interesting stuff... for sure! ๐Ÿ‘

Yeah... that playlist will be an eclectic mish mash of a whole bunch of styles and types of songs. That ZZ Top song - Le Grange... for sure. The songs have to have a strong beat! And good tune!
Beetles, Led Zeplin (Whole Lotta Love).... Sam Smith, jeez..... I better start working on that list. ๐Ÿ“ƒ
I like many different styles of music ๐ŸŽถ so it won't be one type. Some new tunes, are nice as well.

When my former father in law passed last year, the kids and my brother in law spent hours going through photos and scanning them for a slide show. It was awesome. I might want to pick some of those too.

I have signed up as an organ donor so salvageable body parts and tissue will be harvested. Whatever is left will be cremated. There will be no sad songs or standing around mourning. Hopefully, some will gather to share fond memories and laughs while raising a glass of Stoneleigh ( Sauvignon Blanc). Ham, scalloped potatoes, corn and carrots will remind them of my โ€˜go toโ€™ meal.

Stimulate my mind and the possibilities are endless.

I definitely want a party. Not sure what my first song would be other than something on the Top 100 hits, right now I like the Look Ma, I made it by Panic in the Disco. It is a song about making it to the top, being successful. It would work as my first song. Classic rock and yes, even some of the dreaded disco era songs will work nicely into my mix.

Having just recently encountered having to plan some sort of gathering at the loss of a loved one, I do think it is important to give just a little bit of closure to the family and friends. Though I did it my way and the way I thought my deceased husband would like it done, he always told me that he didn't care, it would be entirely up to me how to deal with the occasion.

So, I did a memorial at the national military cemetery here in Oklahoma, short and sweet. It ended up a perfect weather day for the month of March in Oklahoma and then we gathered at my oldest son and daughter-in-laws house for a brief get together to fondly reflect and then everyone went on their way.

It was perfect. It was what "I" needed to start closing out that chapter and start thinking about opening the next chapter of my life.

Pleasure's a sin, and sometimes sin's a pleasure...
