A camel through the eye of a needle

Those who think being rich is ok for a follower of Jesus Christ should try reading the Bible. Jesus is quoted as telling his disciples that it is easier for a camel go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man enter Heaven.

I have noticed that people seem pick parts of the Bible ignore and other parts make a fetish of following.

The Old Testament labeled eating pork, shellfish and working on the Sabbath which was Saturday as sinful. Most Christians these days do not follow these rules, but Orthodox observant Jews do follow them.

Jesus did not condemn homosexual acts, but his disciple Paul did. Oddly no where does the Bible condemn female homosexual activity. Women did not count apparently.

Another odd aspect is no where does the Bible condemn slavery, except for the Egyptians forcing the Jews be slaves. Other slaves seem be accepted as normal behavior. This lack of concern for fairness and the dignity of human beings shows a lack of moral sensitivity that makes the Bible suspect if that is your only source of direction in this material world.

The Old Testament also prohibits clothes made of mixed fibers like the dress shirt of Dacron and cotton blend. Seems that the sheep herders had pull with God's interpreters. Perhaps the Bible needs an updated version to keep up with modern ideas from say 1865 or so.

Oh and Jesus did not like he was from Norway, he was born in Bethlehem and Jewish so he should have looked like Yasar Arafat. Many people seem be unaware that Jesus was Jewish....

Oddly enough Catholics were opposed to people reading the Bible as it has many things in there that might confuse the rabble and lead them astray... There were many battles over translating the Bible into the vernacular languages so people could read it themselves.

Don't forget the Council of Nicaea - they compromised on which books to put in the Bible. Who knows what was omitted. And any translation from the original Aramaic or Greek could be full of errors … not to mention typos. Is that an 'a' or an 'o'? Is that an umlaut or just an ink blot?

I put the sex in sexagenarian

The white blond blue-eyed Anglo Jesus always cracks me up.

I guess technically, through some form of gene mutation he could have looked like that . . . but nah-h-h-h.

Another weird thing, I have many neighbours who identify as Assyrian but are in fact from Iraq.

The Assyrians were among the first to adopt Christianity and can be quite devout.

So, my neighbours' houses all feature Jesus images, but mainly the white Anglo version.
It's ironic because my neighbours probably bear a greater resemblance to historical Jesus, than those images on their wall.

Pretty sure being on this website is not ok for a follower of Jesus too. Will I be in a hotter section of hell if I have too much money as well?

The Old Testament labeled eating pork, shellfish and working on the Sabbath which was Saturday as sinful. Most Christians these days do not follow these rules, but Orthodox observant Jews do follow them.

Acts 15:5-11 Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, “The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to keep the law of Moses.”

The apostles and elders met to consider this question. After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: “Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe. God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith. Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear? No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.”

This was answered about 2000 years ago.

Oddly no where does the Bible condemn female homosexual activity. Women did not count apparently.

Romans 1:26,27 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

You are correct, lots of people ignore parts of the bible. Including you. I prefer to ignore all of it, just making an exception for this post.

Perhaps the Bible needs an updated version to keep up with modern ideas from say 1865 or so.

This doesn't make sense to me. If the bible is from god it should never be changed. If it's not from god it should be ignored. There is no logical reason to update the teachings of the bible.

Following my advice may cause injury, insanity, financial loss, hemorrhoids, death and superpowers

The Bible was written by men inspired by ideas of God. If God wants an update he can inspire new ideas like Scientology, Christian Science, Mormons, etc.

But Jesus showed mercy to an adultress who was about to be stoned to death so there is hope for fornicators.

I was interacting with a woman who claims to be Catholic and she opposed my cheating, saying I should divorce my wife. Pretty sure real Catholics do not condone divorce even these days if that is avoidable. Henry the 8th solved that problem by killing his desired to be ex-wives. That does not seem very Christian either. Somehow the death penalty for not having sex seems too harsh to me.
