Timely reminder

It's Teachers Day on Sept 1st in Singapore... but we usually celebrate on the Friday weekday before the actual day. So since Thursday, I see my teaching friends showing off their students gifts on FB.

Well I have left the industry for so long, people also forgotten about me. As I think back to all the people I helped (students & their parents, even colleagues, etc), I did wondered... I went out of my way back then for so many of them... but now as I'm sick and aging... where are they? Was I a fool like so many had said to me, why bothered helping others when they forget about you or even blamed you in the end?

It wasn't a nice feeling at all... as I was already overwhelmed lately and feeling burnt out. Then I received this FB message... from the young unwed assistant teacher whom I once helped more than a decade ago. She was studying the same course as me, and when I discovered her pregnancy, I blessed her with a room full of baby stuff. I used to slowly prepare a baby room after marriage, only to be disappointed that the infertility issues laid with my Hubby, not me. And since I didn't want to divorce my Hubby, I know I won't have kid from him and so, no point keeping these baby stuff. I gave to her and also encourage her not to abort the fetus.

So many years later, she got in touch with me on FB again, even blessed me with a love gift and told me her baby is a boy, now a teenager with good grades aspiring to be a doctor. I felt my kind deed to her, saved the baby life and he's gotten be a blessing to this world in future too. So kind of her to keep reminding me that I have been an inspiring figure in her life too.

I think with this glitter in the midst of so much gloom the past week, I felt encouraged finally. My kind deeds didn't go forgotten. Even if one person responded back with gratitude, I know I have made a difference in this person's world. It's in my identify to like helping others. And yes, I still love to teach, to mentor, to help people even if they can't do much for me. Just this little thought of gratitude already warmed my heart a lot. Furthermore, she used such a quote from my Founding Father of Singapore, that's quite a honor for me already.

I felt so touched that I could cry again. Awww... thanks for thinking of me on Teachers Day.
