Here's the thing. I am not currently interested in meeting men... I am open about that on my profile and when men message me. But I usually say I'm fine chatting. And most men just disappear when I say that, presumably messaging other women in the hopes one will meet.
But look at the numbers. It's at least a 20 to 1 ratio of men to women and the vast majority of those men just want to get off, whereas the women want at least a bit of a connection. And let's be honest, women who might just want a hookup are looking for hotties... and most of the men writing them do NOT fit into that category. (Side bar: use more flattering pics, guys!)
So what's the likelihood that a man will find a woman on the site who actually wants to meet them? Very low. But they hang around the site anyway, probably paying for that slim chance at a meet. Why not take a little time to chat with a real woman instead of a flake or bot? Intellectual stimulation is not a bad thing.

Yeah I liken it to a TV dinner - they want what they want, expect it within minutes even though that never really satisfies the hunger and won't fulfill the need they seek it anyway because they can have and dispose of it quickly.
